I love a good conversation starter, so to kick off another theme week (yay, Christmas!), I thought it would be fun to feature this battle-scene dress as a holiday option.... because why wouldn't you sport violent scenes from antiquity on Christmas? My thoughts exactly. So should you find yourself at a holiday fete where you don't know anyone, a dress like this should help break the ice. And if that doesn't work, just ask people what their favourite herb is � it works every. single. time. xx

{Wardrobe Wednesday} Phillip Lim Clutch

{ My go-to, the 31 Minute pouch }

This week's WW is all about the neutral, go-to clutch, which for me has recently become the Phillip Lim 31 minute pouch (they actually call it a cosmetics case, but who would be crazy enough to spend 300 big ones on a makeup bag?!). Anyway, I decided to update my previous staple � this vintage YSL clutch that I scored for $4 at a thrift shop � because I wanted to reduce the amount of wear it was inevitably getting. I don't know about you guys, but I like to preserve my things for as long as humanly possible, which means being mindful not to 'overexert' anything... Makes sense, right? I'd like to think so, although I'm sure Mr. AiF would tell you that's just me enabling my shopping addiction. Potato, potato.

As you can probably tell, I'm a bit of a bag fanatic... Even though I've spent the better part of this year cheating on bags with shoes, they still have my true, undying love. So I guess in an attempt to make up for lost time or whatever, I've been going a little crazy in the purse department lately (exhibit A). But you know what? If loving bags is wrong, then I don't want to be right... So with that said, allow me to introduce one of the newest apples of my eye � man, how many cliches can a person squeeze into one post?!

Anyway, I've wanted a Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac since time immemorial, but just somehow never got around to getting one until I peeped it in fire engine red... The minute I saw this colour (seriously though, can you say va va voom?), it was as good as mine. The leather is buttery soft and it fits just the right amount of goodies, making this little beauty and I fast friends... Is that a healthy way of looking at material goods? Oh who can really say.

{Style} Weekend Wear...

My mister and I had a delightful trip to the art gallery this weekend, complete with shots of espresso and pastries that were promptly dropped on the cold, cement floor. What ensued was about 10 minutes of me trying to convince him not to eat said floor danish, culminating in my having to physically remove the contaminated pastry from the vicinity... Let's just say Mr. AiF really, really likes his sweets.

And speaking of sweet, take a look at this adorable vintage crossbody I rediscovered in my closet! I bought it many moons ago during a particularly fruitful thrifting sesh, but somehow space case over here forgot all about it... Typical. It may not hold much (no need to test that assumption like in this post), but it sure is cute! xx

{DIY} Striped Heels...

The minute I saw these Zara heels, I knew my hoarding ways had finally paid off. That's right my friends, my inability to throw away these ancient Aldo kitten heels facilitated my recreation of these striped beauties. Can you say vindication? Anyway, if you have a pair of old, disposable shoes lying around too, you may just want to try this DIY for yourself... Porque no?

Here's what you have to do:




1. Start by taping stripes across the shoe. I used Scotch tape because the width of the tape worked perfectly for the desired stripe size.
2. Secure the tape firmly under the shoe to ensure no paint seeps under the tape.
3. Continue taping both shoes, taking care to mask any surfaces you do not want painted.
4. Place a tape strip around the heel of your shoe, taking care to make the line as straight as possible.
5/6. Apply a thick, even layer of leather-friendly paint to the surface of your shoe and heel. Reapply  as needed.
7. Allow several hours for dry time. I let mine do their thing overnight to make sure there wasn't any funny business.
8. Carefully remove the strips of tape. If you're not gentle during this process you might flake off some of the paint. Go over any imperfections with a black Sharpie (my savior!)
9. Take your new baby's out on the town � You've earned it.

{Style Panel} My So-Called Outfit...

 

I love all things �90s, from flannel and Doc Martens to poof pens and Pop-up Video. Growing up during this time, I experimented with everything from overalls and dark lip liner, to argyle mini skirts and baby doll tees that had Cher Horowitz written all over them. Fast forward a few years, and I still find traces of the decade creeping into my life via fashion, music and film.

Take this dress for instance; the vibrant tribal print conjures up images of Saved By The Bell (which I'm currently rewatching on Netflix!) or Fresh Prince of Bel Air characters, while the booties, leather jacket and slouchy beanie pay homage to the grungier side of the spectrum (of which I�m sure Angela Chase would approve). Whether you like it or not, elements from this � oh let�s go ahead and call it magical � decade are probably creeping into your wardrobes as well, so you may as well embrace the resurgence and work it. Anything from lace up booties and oversized plaid shirts is fair game, with jeweled hair clips (omg, remember those?!) and dark, neutral lips all vying for your attention. I guess what they say is true: You can take the girl out of the �90s, but you can�t take the �90s out of the girl. xx

The weekend is here, and I for one am mega excited (yes, I said mega) to kick back, relax and maybe even do a little shopping while Mr. AiF's out of town. Hey, when the cat's away, am I right? Nothing crazy, just a thing or two to spice things up a bit... You know what else I'm particularly looking forward to this weekend? Uninterrupted, quality time with my old pal Netfix without so much as a peep about my (totally awesome) movie selections... Looks like it's just going to be me and Teen Wolf this Friday night � hubba hubba.

Sometimes when all my shirts seem boring and old, I like to turn my attentions to Mr. AiF's closet... Exhibit A: This plaid shirt. The colour and shape make it perfect for layering, and let's face it, it's always more fun wearing other people's clothes. Sorry Lobbie.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm beat from yesterday's festivities... My family knows how to get down, so we didn't get to bed until 2 am last night � Can you say party animal wannabes? I think I'll be paying the price in the under eye region today as I travel to Vancouver to see Mr. AiF's fam-jam... What can I say, it was worth it.
